About this artifact

This corset busk is carved from bone from a whale. Busks were corset stiffeners made of bone or baleen. Sailors would carve them for their loved ones, who would place them in a sleeve in their corsets as a reminder of their beloved's feelings.

13.75" long x 1 5/8" wide
