About this artifact

This painting of a whaling scene is the title page for the logbook from the Ship Iris while on a whaling voyage to the Pacific. Captain Spooner was the Master of the ship, and the logbook was kept by Richard E. Norton. The voyage began in New Bedford in 1843 and ended in 1847.
