About this artifact

The most imposing house ever built in New Bedford, the home of John Avery Parker, on County Street at Cherry Street was very elaborate. Painted white, the mansion was set well back from the road in beautifully landscaped grounds. It is said that the magnificent residence cost Mr. Parker $100,000, a considerable sum at the time (1834).
