About this artifact

Logbook keepers would sometimes note the sighting or meeting of another ship at sea by using a stamp depicting a ship in full sail. This stamp is carved out of wood. This stamp has a note written on it that says: "from Russell Hancock, 1926, been round the horn, his whaling stamp."
