This drawing by Clifford Ashley shows the drama of the hunt. The whale has been harpooned and is dragging the whaleboat and its crew fast over the water as it tries to escape. Here we see the boatsteerer, who has changed places with the harpooner, in the bow of the boat ready to strike the lance into the whale to kill it. Charcoal on paper.
