Nathan Jernegan, like his brother Jared, was a whaling captain. He was born on October 30, 1821 on Martha's Vineyard, and married Charlotte Corday Dunham on June 2, 1852. He was the son of Nathan and Prudence Jernegan. An experienced seaman, he was the captain of three whaling vessels, including the Niger, the Splendid, and the Rousseau. Nathan and Charlotte had five children together. Charlotte often joined Nathan on his whaling voyages. Nathan passed away on December 16, 1881.
