The indigenous people of New Zealand. They arrived in New Zealand from eastern Polynesia in the 13th century and lived there in isolation until the arrival of Europeans in 17th century. Today they make up approximately 15% of the population. This image is a painting of Tukukino, an fighting chief from the North Island of New Zealand, circa 1880.
