A small atoll (group of coral islands surrounding a lagoon) that is part of Tuamotu group in French Polynesia. Located in the far southeast of the French Polynesian chain of islands, it is oval in shape and bound by a continuous reef. It is 7 km long with a maximum width of 4 km. Its islands are low and flat and because it is landlocked, the lagoon is very high in salt and other minerals.
